Summary: Have you ever been unable to find something you know you have put away? Mary Norton's charming theory for this is that little people live in our houses and "borrow" what they need for their lives. They are ingenius in how they use the "borrowed" materials. The borrower family in the stories consist of a mother (Homily), a father (Pod) and their daughter (Arrietty). Borrowers must never be seen, but one day Arrietty is seen by the human boy who lives in the house, an event which threatens their existence. Many exciting adventures follow.
