Mystery -- Encyclopedia Brown

This series is a favorite of gifted children.
Publisher Recommended Reading Level: 9-12

Summary: Encyclopedia Brown is an 11 year old, 5th grade boy whose father is the Chief of Police of Idaville. He helps solve the mysteries his father talks about at home.

Each Encylcopedia Brown book is actually several short mysteries. At the end of each mystery, Encylopedia (whose real name is Leroy) has solved the case and the reader is invited to figure out how he did it, usually with a question like "how did Encyclopedia know that X was responsible for the crime?" And just in case the reader can't solve the case as easily as Leroy does, the answers are in the back of the book.

These stories really allow kids to exercise their problem solving skills, not to mention their analytical skills!
