Fantasy/Adventure -- Dragon Slayers' Academy

So many gifted children love fantasy stories that it's a good thing series like this one are around!
Publishers Recommended Reading Level: 9-12.  Remember that gifted kids can often read books above their own age level.

Summary: Children who enjoy reading about Harry Potter will no doubt enjoy reading about Wiglaf, the reluctant hero of the Dragon Slayers' Academy series.  Any child who loves great fantasy adventure stories will sure love The Dragon Slayers' Academy.

Wiglaf's adventures begin when a traveling minstrel tells him that he is to become a hero.  To fulfill this destiny, Wiglaf signs up at the Dragon Slayers' Academy.  Becoming a heroic dragon slayer is going to be difficult -- Wiglaf can't stand the sight of blood!

During his adventures, Wiglaf learns about his past and about what his future holds.  Wiglaf and his pet pig, Daisy (who speaks Pig Latin) encounter wizards, dragons, a secret princess, and easily recognized visitors like Sir Lancelot and Morgan Le Fey!

The books are witty, some full of knock-knock jokes as well as comical and gross events, just what 9 year olds love!
