Being Gifted

It's important for gifted kids to understand what it means to be gifted. It can help keep them from feeling isolated and alone. These books are excellent sources for helping gifted understand who they are.

Parenting Tip: Gifted kids usually know they are different from most other kids their age.  However, few of them understand the world enough to know that those differences don't reflect some personal flaw.  They can come to see themselves rather negatively and develop a negative self-image.

They also may experience an depth of feeling that they simply aren't equipped to deal with.  They may have difficulties relating to peers or understanding the problems in the world.

We parents shouldn't tell them not to worry about things; they will anyway.  We also need to make sure they understand themselves and also  understand that they are not alone; other children think and feel and experience many of the same things they do.
