History - World War I & World War II

Many gifted children love games of strategy and some see war as a strategy "game." These kids might enjoy learning about World War I and World War II.  Most of the books about war here have a publisher recommended level of 9-12.

Parenting Tip: Don't think that an interest in war and weapons means that your gifted child has morbid interests or is fascinated by death.  Many gifted children love games of strategy and some see war as a strategy "game."  It isn't that they don't take it seriously; they just understand at a very early age that war does involve strategy and trying to make the best moves in order to beat your opponent.  Learning about the guns and vehicles used in war is part of learning the strategy.

Gifted children also often have global concerns and want to know about how nations do or don't get along -- and why or why not.  They want to know, therefore, why nations fight.
