Sensitive Subjects -- Death and Sexuality

Talking to children about sex and death is never easy. These two subjects can be even more difficult to discuss with gifted children because these kids become curious about these topics earlier than most children, tend to be emotionally sensitive, and aren't usually satisfied with simply answers. A good book can help. Books here are for gifted children of various ages.

Death   Sexuality

Parenting Tip: Kids seem to be maturing at younger and younger ages, so don't be surprised if your 9 year old acts like a pre-adolescent!  Whether gifted kids mature faster than non-gifted kids is open to debate, but they certainly do seem to be more interested or at least aware of bodies and reproduction.

They will ask about sex at very young ages and won't be so easily satisfied with simple answers.  Don't worry.  That curiosity is normal, and it's the same kind of curiosity that they show toward other scientific topics.  They want to know how it all works!
